Teaching Philosophy

A native of Gunma, Japan, Sayuri started studying piano at the age of six, and Alto Saxophone at the age of thirteen. She studied Piano Performance at Mount Union College and graduated in 2002. Sayuri came to Butler University in 2003 to pursue her graduate study in piano pedagogy. She served as the keyboard skills graduate assistant for two years during her study and graduated with Master of Music in Piano Pedagogy in 2005. She is trained in both private and group teaching. She has taught private and group lessons extensively in great Indianapolis Area last fifteen years. She loves working with any age and skill level of students.

Sayuri believes music can make a significant difference in our lives because music simply brings us so much pleasure. Sayuri also believes that music can strengthen us intellectually, emotionally and spiritually. Sayuri’s goal in her teaching is not only for students to find the pleasure in piano playing but also to help students understand becoming a self-motivated learner. In her private and group lessons, Sayuri includes a different element of piano playing introducing well-balanced keyboard skills in a repertoire, theory, and technique meeting each students’ need.
